BlkBird is Canadian singer/songwriter, Chanel Martins. BlkBird decided to pursue a career in music as music has been her lifeline for as long as she can remember. "There are countless songs that have made me feel so deeply in so many ways and I want to contribute to that. Whether it's a euphoric song that makes you want to dance, or a sad song you find comfort in, and everything in between. When I listen to Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Roy Orbison, Jeff Buckley, Elton John, Lana Del Rey and more, I am pulled to the magical and consuming world of music." BlkBird began singing at a very young age and has always used songwriting as an outlet. "When I write something out of hurt or turmoil, I immediately feel better. It solidifies the notion that there is beauty in the ugly and light in the darkness. It makes sense of this wild world." Her mission is to create authentic music that helps others the way that her favorite artists/bands helped her. She has opened for Jeff Martin of The Tea Party, Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, Puddle of Mudd, and more. She has also performed with Ian D'Sa (Billy Talent) and Cone McCaslin (Sum 41) for Make Music Matter's Unplugged Together concert series. Her eclectic taste in music allows her to blend genres that inspire her while also adding her own individual style to her music. BlkBird released her debut EP with Grammy Award winning producer, David Bottrill, on September 16th 2022.
